About Us

HOME GROWN FOR HOMEOWNERS

Our commitment to our local communities, their boards of directors and their homeowners has been a hallmark of our business for the past 37 years. Since 1981, The Cooper Company has been the trusted partner to community associations and commercial associations in the Central Valley.

Our founder, Jean Marie Cooper, built The Cooper Company on the foundation of real-world, person-to-person partnerships with you, our clients. Even in today’s fast-paced, electronic world we still believe in that foundation.  Our local family-owned and operated business is proud to build community partnerships with those we serve.

WE’RE ON YOUR TEAM

We don’t just select our team members for their experience; we choose service-oriented professionals from our community. Our team of managers has more than 65 years of experience in the management industry and is equipped with the ability to think critically and problem solve creatively. Our pool of resources is comprised of experienced community managers sure to find the perfect solution every time.

Like many of you, our managers grew up, or currently live, in the Central Valley and understand the unique environment here. We at The Cooper Company, both as a company and individually, are home-grown members of the communities in which we live and work.

FOUNDER
Jean Marie Cooper, MBA

Jean Marie’s involvement in the real estate management and financial administrative management industry spans more than 25 years. She founded The Cooper Company in 1981, after seeing a need for quality professional management services in the Central Valley.

With over 30 years of experience in association management, Jean Marie specialized in providing outstanding community association management services. She is also an authority on current state laws and reporting requirements, accounting, maintenance, insurance, contracts, budgeting, financial analysis/marketing, and public relations.

She formally held the key designation of Certified Community Association Manager through the California Association of Community Managers. Jean Marie completed the Operations and Management Program at the Community Association Institute through the International Council of Shopping Centers. In addition, she obtained extensive training in Fiscal Analysis, Problem-Solving, and Decision-Making for Real Estate Managers as well as Site Construction and Maintenance through the Institute of Real Estate Management. She holds a master’s degree in business administration from California State University, Stanislaus.

Jean Marie was a member of the Condominiums Association Institute and the California Association of Community Managers, and she possesses a California Real Estate Broker’s License. Her extensive community service, civic memberships, and honors include tenures as membership chair of Modesto Rotary, trustee for the Memorial Hospital Foundation, board member of the Stanislaus County YMCA, board member for the Tahoe Swiss Village Homeowners Association and speech judge for the Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon.

Bob Burge, MBA, CCAM
President

Bob has been at The Cooper Company since 2008 in full service community association management. He’s developed skills in current state laws, finance, accounting, budgeting and maintenance, and has a long history of leadership — including a ten-year position with Johnson and Johnson as a Health Care Solutions Specialist. In fact, Burge was responsible for management of a$5 million territory. Burge was also the president of the Central Valley Professional Exchange in 2004 and a board member for many years. He’s been on the board of trustees for the Center for Human Services and on the board of directors for the Modesto Tree Foundation.

He doesn’t just handle trees for business. One of his hobbies is gardening; he finds it fun to get his hands dirty. He also likes baseball, because it’s a shared pastime with his son. After a long hard day of work and play, Bob enjoys a nice glass of wine for its complexity and the history that’s unique to every bottle.

What is your favorite music? I am fan of Sting because he brings so many different types of music into his repertoire: Punk, rock, reggae, jazz, pop, country, classical and even storytelling for children. Unbelievable!

Describe your dream home: Minimalist contemporary with smart technology, a great garden and an outdoor space to share with friends!

Angela Burge, CAMEx, CCAM
Vice President

Angela started with The Cooper Company 30 years ago and has held virtually every position in the company, including Administrative Assistant, Bookkeeper, Community Association Accounting Manager, Rental Manager and Community Association Manager. She became Vice President in 2004 and holds the designation of Certified Community Association Manager from the California Association of Community Managers and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley (UCB).

Angela’s professional and civic leadership activities include membership in the Community Associations Institute and the California Association of Community Managers; tenures as Treasurer/Secretary for the UCB Re-entry Transfer Student Association; communication officer for the UCB Anthropology Undergraduate Association; board member of the Girl Scouts Muir Trail Council; founding member of the Central Valley Professional Exchange;  board member of Central West Ballet and co-founder/board member of Ovation!, the Central West Ballet Guild.

For a woman of so many talents, her hobbies are just as varied. Angela loves travel — especially the sort that involves activities like kayaking, hiking, and biking. While she’s home, she enjoys gardening, cooking and reading.

What is your favorite music? My favorite music is classic rock and current pop, but I also love classical, blues, jazz and most other types of music.

Describe your dream home: My dream home would be an early 20th century craftsman or similar style with a huge wraparound porch, but equipped with all the modern upgrades such as kitchen appliances, house alarm, auto sprinklers and more.

Christine Bonjour-Fortuny, CAFM
Accounting Manager

Christine has always been self-motivated. For the last fifteen years, she’s ran a mobile bookkeeping and tax service out of Knights Ferry, wherein she was the sole proprietor, managing income tax returns, payroll tax returns, financial reports and accounting programs for new businesses and more.

She officially came to The Cooper Company in 2009, but started in 2000 as a subcontractor. Christine has been an invaluable Accounting Manager, counted upon to supervise accounting staff and operations, review complete financial statements and tax returns, prepare financial reports, rental department accounting, accounts payable accounting and the management of one homeowner’s association. She’s even the current board secretary of the Knights Ferry Community Services district.

Her hobbies are traveling and boating — but she also enjoys entertaining for her friends and family.

What is your favorite music? Classic rock and current pop music.

Describe your dream home: Currently, I am living in my dream home. It’s in a remote small town with a large back deck that overlooks a river. But, when I retire, I would like to have a home on a beach in a tropical area such as Belize or the Caribbean.

Ron Clark, CMCA
Senior Community Manager

Ron is a dynamic, results-oriented management professional dedicated to accomplishing the big picture without losing track of the details. He has the ability to resolve key issues, communicate pivotal concepts and develop innovative ideas.

Ron’s been a Community Manager for nearly a decade as well as a Design Review Administrator and Irrigation Division Manager. He also has a plethora of hobbies. For relaxation, he takes up his pole and heads outdoors to fish. When he’s not catching food, he’s cooking it, experimenting with new recipes and whipping up some favorites. He makes a great spaghetti and Noodles Romanoff. And to finish his perfect day? He’ll watch a good movie — with some popcorn, of course.

What is your favorite music? Classic Rock (mostly sixties and seventies), Blues, R&B (mostly Motown classics).

Describe your dream home: My dream home would be on a lake, containing lots of trout and salmon, with a boat dock and, of course, a boat. The home itself could be simple, but with great lake views and a world class kitchen.

Describe your dream home:  My dream home is an ultra-modern architectural design with a bright seashell-white exterior, tile roof, and bamboo flooring.  The majority of the interior materials are glass, stainless steel and bamboo, with a very open floor plan and large floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing for lots of natural light.  These huge windows will be appreciated for enjoying the cliff-side view of the beach!
